D/FW Pit Krew Monthly Review
Taking the stage after ION were Shades of Dust, another band I had heard alot of good things about. Despite some early technical difficulties, the band retained composure like pros and managed to pound into their set on time. Bassist Danny Burtonand drummer Brian King make for a rock solid rhythm section, and guitarist Tanner Vincent and vocalist Cordell Austin filled their sonic niches with ease. Highlights of the show included "Burn You Down", which featured Austin and Burton on a dual vocal reminiscent of old Alice in Chains, and crowd favorite "Calm". By the final number, bassist Burton was bounding all over the stage like a madman, drawing the crowd in with his enthusiasm. If you haven't heard this Irving quartet, do yourself a favor and attend one of their upcoming dates. You'll leave the show pleasantly surprised.

A good early crowd stayed for headliner Shades of Dust, who put on a great show. The rhythm section of Danny Burton (bass) and Brian King (drums) laid an airtight foundation for guitarist Tanner Vincent and vocalist Cordell Austin to build upon. Austin had the crowd in the palm of his hand, especially after inviting an excited young fan to join him onstage to help with vocals on Calm. Other highlights were opening song Inferior and fan favorite Borrowed Time, which was the band's encore. A performance with heart, soul, and energy- that might be why they sold out of their CD's so fast!
